Project overview
Explore
Xdot, a growing design agency, lacked an online presence. Without a website, the agency struggled to showcase its portfolio, communicate its services to potential clients, and build credibility in a competitive digital market. This absence limited their ability to attract new customers and grow their business.
Goal
The goal was to create a website from scratch that would establish Xdot’s online presence and serve as a central hub for their brand. Key objectives included: Establish Online Presence: Create a professional, modern website that reflects Xdot’s identity and positions them as a credible player in the design industry. Showcase Work: Develop an interactive and visually compelling portfolio section that highlights Xdot’s design projects and expertise. User-Friendly Design: Ensure the site is easy to navigate, with a focus on user experience and mobile responsiveness. Client Conversion: Implement clear calls-to-action to drive potential clients to contact Xdot for design services.
My Role
I was responsible for the end-to-end process of creating a compelling and functional online presence for the design agency. This involved leading the design vision, from initial concept through to the final delivery of the website.
Responsabilities
I began with user research, gathering insights on target audience needs and preferences through surveys and interviews to inform design decisions. I then progressed to wireframing, developing clear layouts and structures that facilitated an intuitive user journey. Following this, I created interactive prototypes to demonstrate functionality and gather valuable feedback from stakeholders and users. My role also involved visual design, where I crafted the overall look and feel of the website, selecting color schemes, typography, and imagery that aligned with the Xdot brand. In collaboration with the team, I integrated content effectively, ensuring clarity and engagement while optimizing it for SEO. I worked closely with developers to ensure the accurate and functional implementation of the design, addressing any technical constraints that arose. Additionally, I assisted in conducting usability testing to evaluate the website's design and functionality, gathering user feedback for iterative improvements. Finally, I conducted thorough final checks on all design elements to ensure they met project goals and standards before supporting the launch process.
User
User Research
I focused on understanding how users interact with online design services and what factors influence their decision-making, such as ease of use, trustworthiness, and accessibility. This research shaped the design approach, prioritizing a seamless, user-friendly experience.
Persona
One persona was Carla a small business owner looking for an affordable yet professional design service. Carla values efficiency, clear communication, and quick turnaround times.
Another persona, Daniel, is a creative director at a mid-sized agency, seeking innovative design solutions with a focus on customization and collaboration. These personas helped guide the design decisions, ensuring the website catered to a diverse range of needs.
Problem Statement
From the research, I identified the following problem statements:
"As a small business owner, I need a website that is easy to navigate and understand so that I can quickly decide if the design services fit my needs."
"As a creative director, I want a website that showcases unique design projects and offers customization options so that I can find a service that aligns with my company's creative vision."
User Journey
Carla, a small business owner, approaches her search for design services with practicality and budget-consciousness. Her journey begins with a straightforward search for affordable web design services, where Xdot's clear pricing and simple messaging immediately catches her attention. As she navigates through the website, she prioritizes finding transparent information about services and costs, while seeking validation through customer testimonials. For Carla, the ideal experience culminates in a streamlined quote request process that doesn't waste her valuable time – she needs efficiency and clarity at every step.
In contrast, Daniel, a Creative Director, approaches his search for design services with a focus on quality and innovation. His journey often starts through professional referrals or targeted searches for custom design agencies, with Xdot's portfolio of creative work serving as his primary point of interest. He deeply engages with case studies and project showcases, looking for evidence of innovative thinking and adaptability. While Carla values straightforward pricing, Daniel prioritizes understanding the collaborative process and seeing evidence of complex, customized solutions. His journey concludes with a detailed discussion about his vision, expecting a sophisticated dialogue about creative possibilities.

Usability Study
Navigation and Structure Improvements
The initial usability study revealed several critical areas for enhancement in the website's user interface and experience. Navigation emerged as a primary concern, with users struggling to locate essential sections like Services and Contact. To address this, we implemented a streamlined navigation system with clear, intuitive labels and logical grouping of related content, significantly improving the site's overall usability.
Our study also identified challenges with content hierarchy and visual emphasis. Users noted that critical elements, including CTAs and key company information, lacked proper visibility. In response, we enhanced the visual hierarchy through strategic design adjustments: CTAs were redesigned with increased size and contrast, while important content sections, such as the company mission and portfolio, were repositioned for better visibility. Additionally, we optimized the mobile experience by refining the responsive design and introduced subtle interactive elements to boost engagement while maintaining the site's clean aesthetic. These improvements collectively created a more intuitive and engaging user experience across all devices.
Take Aways
The usability study reinforced the importance of designing with the user in mind. Insights from real users helped shape critical decisions, improving both functionality and the overall experience of the website.
Users expect intuitive navigation. Overcomplicated menus or unclear labels can lead to frustration, so simplifying and clarifying the navigation significantly enhances usability.
Properly prioritizing content with clear visual hierarchy ensures users can find the most important information quickly, keeping them engaged with the website and its offerings.
With a growing number of users accessing sites on mobile devices, ensuring that the website performs well and looks good across all screen sizes is key to delivering a consistent experience.
Regularly conducting usability tests and incorporating user feedback is a valuable part of the design process. It leads to continuous improvement and more effective, user-friendly products.
